Having pressed on with his conquests after the fall of Constantinople, Sultan Mehmed now turns his gaze towards Rome. As preparations for the great campaign gather pace, the intelligence to be supplied by Bellini, brought over from Rome, opens a new path before the Ottoman army.
Yet as the march on Rome draws nearer, a mounting danger in the east begins to shift the balance. The Papacy’s plan to set the Ottomans and the Akkoyunlu against one another, intended to halt Mehmed’s advance, also pulls Princes Bayezid and Mustafa into a perilous struggle.
As events at Karasu sharpen the tension between the two states, Sultan Mehmed finds himself caught between the ideal of Rome on one side and a looming great confrontation on the other.
